Do you remember that LAST time we got to go play in the Sunshine?

February 23, 2020 - Lake Worth, Florida

Artists, musicians and writers descended upon downtown Lake Worth Beach last weekend to cast off the dross of the everyday and challenge the mundane with art.

Armed with chalk and imagination, the artists transformed conventional tarmac into works of beauty, while the musicians filled the air with busking and the writers did what writers always do: stood apart, observed, remembered.

What feeling soul would not have wished the festival a day or two longer, would not crave more art in our monochromatic lives? And what human with the tiniest erg of empathy would share no pain with an artist who, after spending two days on hands and knees creating their chalk masterpiece, witnessed their effort smudged off the roadway by the first automobiles to travel the unblocked streets, automobiles whose eraser tires announced the victory of the humdrum and monotonous over the festival’s eruption of the humane?

The sole solace to creators and viewers alike resided in our knowledge that all art is impermanent - as are we.

My little brother was one tough kid. I've only been knocked out twice in my life and they were both by him. The first time had everything to do with this damn poo bear. He would hold this and his security blanket everywhere he went. One day I threatened to take his poo bear away if he didn't leave me alone and as I was walking away, he clubbed me over the head with a toy rifle.
After his passing late last year and as we were cleaning out his apartment, we found the poo bear AND the blanket tucked away neatly in a container. As much as I wanted to draw his portrait, I knew I wasn't ready. I thought this was appropriate.
My mother had come out this year which was very special. And that was the last of going anywhere for pretty much the rest of the year for all of us.
